“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not to their own facts.”
—Daniel Patrick Moynihan

The late social scientist and U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan made this famous remark during a period in American history when there was a general consensus that government needed science and evidence to be effective and that science needed government to thrive. Today, that consensus is severely tested as public discourse is increasingly shaped by misinformation, partisan division, and declining trust in institutions.

This nonpartisan panel discussion unites policymakers and social scientists for a dialogue about the responsibilities we all bear in advancing a fruitful relationship between the scientific enterprise and good governance in a “post-truth” political environment.

Moderated by Jamelle Bouie, the panel will include Cecilia Rouse and Thomas O. Melia. This page will be updated as more speakers are announced.

Please RSVP before Friday, January 9.
