Have an idea for a volume of The ANNALS?

The American Academy of Political and Social Science welcomes proposals for future volumes of The ANNALS that promote the use of the social sciences to inform public opinion and improve public policy.

If you would be interested in serving as Special Editor of a volume of The ANNALS, please send a 2–3 page proposal to

Tom Kecskemethy
Executive Editor, The ANNALS

The Academy seeks proposals with broad, interdisciplinary perspectives on important social issues. Typically, each volume consists of a preface/introduction and 10–12 articles. A proposal should include the following:

  • The rationale for the volume and a summary of the issues it would explore;
  • An overview of the field of research under examination and how the proposed volume would advance that field;
  • A list of chapters, with a few sentences explaining each chapter’s content; and
  • The names of potential contributing author(s) for each chapter, with a brief description of how each is well-suited to write a contribution on the individual article topic.

The ANNALS’ executive editor is happy to work with prospective special editors to shape volume proposals to best meet editors’ needs and our publication standards. Upon receipt of a final version of the proposal, the executive editor will solicit blind reviews that inform our decision about whether or not to proceed to publication.
