Janice Madden, Alan Krueger, and Francine Blau

In a statement on Monday, August 29, 2011, President Obama announced that he has chosen Alan Krueger to be the Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, calling Krueger “one of [America’s] leading economists.” As the Chairman of the White House Council, Krueger is tasked with decreasing national unemployment, specifically focusing on long-term joblessness.

Following his time as Assistant Treasury Secretary for Economic Policy, also under the Obama administration, Krueger returned to Princeton University, where he was the Bendheim Professor of Economics and Public Affairs.

Alan Krueger was named the Theodore Roosevelt Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Science in 2004. He has also written for the Academy’s bi-monthly journal, The Annals. Please visit SAGE Publications to download for FREE his article (with coauthor David Card) on school resources and student outcomes.
