On October 15, 2018, Professor Dorothy E. Roberts of the University of Pennsylvania was inducted to the National Academy of Medicine after being elected in 2017.
Roberts is a Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Africana Studies and Sociology in the School of Arts and Sciences and the Law School, where she holds the inaugural Raymond Pace and Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander Chair. Roberts focuses on issues in health, social justice, and bioethics, especially as they affect the lives of women, children, and African Americans. She is the author of four books and more than 100 scholarly articles and book chapters, as well as coeditor of six books on such topics as constitutional law, and women and the law. She has served on the Board of the AAPSS since 2015.
Election to the National Academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine. With election, the National Academy recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.
